Many of the major pharmaceutical companies have programs to provide free or deeply discounted medications to those who meet their financial requirements. The details vary by company, and sometimes by medication. Check the sites below for your medications to see if you qualify.

Medication Refill Requests
If you need a medication refill, please call your pharmacy first to see if there are authorized refills there. If your bottle says "partial refill remaining," or something like that, then you have part of a prescription, not part of a month, left and are probably OK.
If you know you have no refills and would like to request a medication refill through this site, please complete the On-Line Refill Request Form. You may request refill of up to four (4) medications per form. Your request(s) will be processed within 24 hours (longer on weekends or holidays). We will call you if there are any problems.

Medication Information Web Sites
The following sites contain information about medications, including use, side effects and interactions.

FDA Drug Information This site provides basic information about drugs currently marketed, including those recently approved by the FDA, including brand name, ingredients, the date the drug was approved, uses and precautions. Also included is the FDA pamphlet, My Medicines, which includes a medication tracking chart.

RxList is a searchable database of information on more than 4,000 drugs, herbs, and homeopathics developed by Neil Sandow, PharmD. It includes pharmaceutical products currently on the US market. Easy-to-read patients summaries are included. RxList provides the trade and generic names, information on how the drug is used, possible drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse reactions. RxList cross-references all drug monographs and can be searched by brand name, generic name or drug category. It also includes the "Top 200 Drugs" prescribed during the previous year.

Online Pharmacy Web Sites
The following are a list of some of the on-line pharmacy sites. Most of these sites include over the counter medications and a large variety of related items, such as you would find in a bricks and mortar pharmacy. Pricing is not always competitive, so shop around. Many of them accept the common insurance plans, but you may do better going with the site sponsored by your Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM). Most of these sites require you to register before you can access pricing and request medications.

Drug Store Run Sites

CVS DrugStores Formerly Soma.com, this is now a CVS owned site. Select Pharmacy counter (top right) to enter new prescriptions. You can refill your prescriptions here and pick them up at your local CVS store, or have it shipped to you. You can also look up information about medications here (the same handouts they give you when you pick up your medications).

Walgreens Pharmacy is a bit more focused on prescriptions. When I tried to search for Actos, a common, though somewhat new, diabetes medication, this site could not find it! You can print your prescription records for a report of your costs for the year. The site suggested that your price might be different if you pick up the drug at your local store rather than have it shipped. Walgreens has aquired Rite-Aid and DrugStore.com.

GNC.com, run by the GNC Nutrition Stores, is primarily for OTC non-prescription items, but if you click on 'Shop Online' you will be taken to a GNC specific DrugStore.com site, from which you can do your prescription refills (see above).
